Exercising With High Blood Pressure

There are several disorders that can plague human existence and a high blood pressure is undoubtedly one of them. In plain terms, blood pressure is the force that is exerted by the blood on the walls of its vessels. A high blood pressure arises due to cardiovascular problems, when the heart finds it difficult to pump sufficient blood into the vessels. There are drugs and medicines that can reduce this or keep it in control, but most often the effective treatment of this is through regular exercises.

A study shows that people with mild pressure have found exercising to be a good way to keep the disorder at bay. Further it has been found that people who lead a sedentary life stand a greater risk of getting high blood pressure compared to those who lead an active life. Exercising can also help in reducing stress and hypertension which are potent causes of this ailment. Although there are medicines that can ward off the problem to some extent, they are often too expensive and may have harmful side effects. Thus it is always a good idea to bring in changes in your lifestyle and engage in fitness training as soon as you are diagnosed with high blood pressure.

If you are not already into health and fitness, your first job will be to get in touch with a fitness trainer who will be able to guide you through the entire process. Of course you need to get the permission of your doctor before that. Once you have the trainer, you can start with exercises that will not to be too exhausting for your body.

Aerobic exercises can be very effective. Walking, an aerobic exercise has been found to be very effective in combating high blood pressure. This is light on the body, doesn?t exhaust you too much but works very well towards burning off extra fat from your body. If your doctor allows you and you have a walking program chalked out by your personal trainer, start off with without delay!

Apart from that you can also do a bit of cardio training under the supervision of your personal trainer. This will contribute towards increasing your heart beat rate and hence result in an easy blood flow reducing the probability of a high blood pressure.

Regular exercising can yield multiple benefits if you are suffering from an increased blood pressure. Some of them are:

When you workout you lose weight and your body stays active. This facilitates better blood flow through the vessels.

Exercising improves and increases the strength of your heart. This enables it pump more blood into the blood vessels thus diminishing the risk of a high blood pressure to a considerable extent.

It also helps in de-stressing. People suffering from hypertension are more prone to high blood pressure, so getting rid of stress is important if you want to ward off the same. Exercising is the best way to achieve this goal.

So, having high blood pressure shouldn?t deter you from a regular session of fitness training. Rather it should be a compelling reason why you would want to maintain a healthy and fit body. Keep the discussed points in mind and very soon you will find your blood pressure dipping more than you had probably imagined!

If you suffer from high blood pressure and would like to get in shape try this Boston personal trainer program. Or if you are closer to this Lincoln fitness boot camp be sure to stop by and see the workouts.

Getting through the first anniversary of the death of a loved one

The death of a loved one is the worst thing that can happen to anyone. And "a synonym for destruction. No matter what the reason you should ever ready for it. If you're one of those people who have experienced this, then you know what I have to say that every day the pain of loss and grief moved as the day seems to deepen meaning.

And 'lame inside you and make you feel as if a part of you died inside as well. Every day you can hear that there is nothing better. You try survivingTheir daily lives, but if it breaks the night and you're alone in your room again, seems the loneliness and desolation that lies before us, to overwhelm you.

Sometimes you get the feeling that this pain will never completely abandoned. Sometimes the feeling that this nightmare of pain and suffering will never end. It is the first anniversary of the death of loved ones, but everything still seems unreal. As if you can not digest what he or she has a year away.

Somehow it isare relieved that we survived one year without a loved one, but there's nothing better. The first anniversary of the death can be alleviated, but also very painful because he gave the day you will never forget for the rest of your life remembered.

Losing someone like a husband or wife is a milestone in your life, if not treated properly, can not recover from the pain. So, if the year is the first anniversary of the death, andif you want to get it on with a healthy mind, here are some suggestions.

Face it and take advantage of the first anniversary of death with honor and care for your loved ones. As the consumption of sleeping pills and doze all day is not a good idea at all then something good out of it. Visit the grave of their loved one is the best thing to do in the first anniversary of the death.

With flowers and candles on the grave of any help to attractthroughout the day. If it say something in the back of her head, as if the loved one is in front of you. Just believe that wherever your loved one or is she is able to hear the relief in any way to your pain.

Pour your feelings can be very useful. If you want to cry and sob like, you do it. Another way to get through the first anniversary of the death year is to start missing something useful and helpful to others of your loved one. For example, ifhe or she died of cancer, a charity Cancer Awareness or a foundation to help others suffering the same type of cancer or a support group for people like you begin the grieving can be very rewarding.

The first death anniversary year must not be a day of torture. To help you on the first anniversary of the death to get rewarding years to do something for others and find a higher purpose is the best way to collect your pain.

People react after magnitude 5.8 quake rocks East Coast (The Newsroom)

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake rocked the East Coast prompting some evacuations at the Capitol, Pentagon and White House, the AP reports. The quake was felt as far north as Rhode Island and New York City.

"I've never felt an earthquake before," says Joao Costa, a Yahoo! News editor in New York City. "The office building shook for about 15 seconds.? Jokingly, I yelled out 'quake!' and my colleagues laughed. Some got up and looked at the ceiling, after all, a week before a big chunk had fallen on Dan Gross's desk. It took about a second to realize that it really was a quake, and had nothing to do with the construction on the top floor. Then I saw the news alerts."

Mark Pesavento, a Yahoo! Sports blog editor who lives in northwest D.C. felt the tremor as he worked from home.

"Our house shook violently for 15-20 seconds with lighter shaking for maybe another 5-10 seconds," he says. "My monitor was shaking, the walls, I could see the ceiling moving. At first I thought it was a truck going by on the major street our house sits on, but I used to live in Los Angeles, and as soon as I heard no truck, I knew exactly what it was and ducked under my office desk. Our landline phone was down for about a half hour, [but] is back now. Cell service was also unavailable in the immediate aftermath. My wife's office was evacuated, as were several other offices in D.C. [I'm told.]"

While state buildings were being evacuated, some are going about their business as usual, says Phil Pruitt, a Yahoo! Politics editor.

"All streets right around the U.S. Capitol, Supreme Court building, Library of Congress, and House and Senate office buildings are closed. Metro is closed too," he says. "The Capitol is not expected to open again today, according to Capitol police. Sounds of sirens are everywhere, plus building alarms. People however are just walking around, and Lincoln Park just blocks from Capitol has the usual number of parents and strollers and dogs. Looks like a typical Friday August afternoon.

Pruitt also saw how others reacted at the East Potomac Park Golf Club House.

"People in [the club house] came flying out of the building and everybody on the porch and around the building were all shouting, 'Did you feel that?' One man shouted, 'I hope nothing got hit,' apparently thinking of a terrorist attack,' he says. "Another man in a van in the parking lot said he jumped out, that it felt like somebody was on the back jumping up and down. And two women walking through the parking lot were overheard [saying], 'We had only had one beer. I didn't know what that was!'"

Erin Wright, a Yahoo! Philadelphia editor took to social media to see what people were saying about the quake and reported it in an on-the-scene live blog.

"DID WE JUST LIVETWEET AN EARTHQUAKE?"

"Whoa ... anyone feel that?"

"My building just shook ..."

"This is Philly! Philly?! What the ? is going on?"

"Sitting through earthquakes ? not my job description," one person groused on Facebook.

"Those [in] D.C. seemed to be the most shaken up ? literally ? being so close to the epicenter of the quake," she wrote in the blog. "Communications were down, too, as emergency switchboards were jammed with people calling to ask just what the heck was going on.

"So far, no reports of injuries or damages. In Philly, the Comcast Center is closed and all City Council employees sent home for the day. SEPTA is running behind schedule (usually don't need an earthquake for that to happen). Things seem to be going back to normal in New York, too."

Live Splendid & Be Well,

I?m confused about time-out.? My son just turned 2 and he is starting to act-out.? Should I start putting him in time-outs or is the message lost on kids his age?? And if he?s too young now, at what age is time-out a good idea?? I know he needs to learn consequences but what works best with kids his age?? ?Also, is it an urban myth or should I put him in one minute of time-out for every year that he is old?

Melissa, San Carlos, CA

Dear Melissa,

As you might expect, ?time-out? is definitely over used. ?That does not mean that you cannot?use it effectively. ?Guidance and consequences should match the stage of the child?s development. ?Most two-year-olds will act out. ?That is normal and expected for this stage of development and yet, too many toddlers are inappropriately thrown into time-out (or forced to face some other consequence) without understanding what they did wrong. Children, particularly young children, need ongoing talks and explanations from their parents to understand right and wrong.

Once you have defined limits appropriately,?you will begin to recognize that?your child?s behavior is more purposeful. ?They?understand what you have said and still chose to challenge your rules. ?This is when you decide to respond with a consequence like a time-out or withdrawal of an enjoyable recorded program or toy. ?The appropriate time for a time-out needs to fit the circumstances, including the nature of the misbehavior and the attention span of the child to gauge effectiveness.?

Interestingly, as your child matures, you may be the one who?needs time-out just to cool down in order to guide your child?s behavior in a positive way. Too often parents fail to focus on the inappropriateness of the behavior and instead tear down the child for what will seem, in retrospect, an inconsequential violation. ?I am not implying that follow up and consequences aren?t important? just remember that the child?s age and their offense are critical considerations.? The ?urban myth? proposes this concept. ?Add on to that notion factors such as your child?s temperament, his earlier behaviors, and the guidance you have provided to him.

A Mother's Appeal: Look for Hidden Learning Disabilities Early in ...

When a child looks normal, but does not learn well, we sometimes make the assumption that the child is lazy or not focused enough on their studies in school. This common and almost always frustrating scenario is what parents deal with every day when they have a child with learning disabilities (LD) or special needs. And that is exactly what Dane, a sinewy child with pretty white blond hair and the biggest of smiles, faces every time he picks up a pencil or a book.

Kathryn Roset, an Arkansas attorney and parent of five, has faced this frustration for years since her son Dane, now eleven, was a toddler. ?When we see a child with physical issues, we understand their learning challenges instantly and hopefully prescribe strategies and technology accommodations that will help,? said Mrs. Roset. ?But learning disabilities can be hidden; it becomes more difficult to accept, prescribe and deliver learning experiences in effective ways.?

Dane participates in the Arkansas Virtual Academy (ARVA) which is an online state charter school. ARVA provides students with the K12 curriculum, supplies, a grade level teacher and support services. Dane receives occupational, physical, and speech/language therapies, along with mental health services to assist him. In return, Mrs. Roset functions as his primary learning coach and is required to make sure he fulfills all district and state requirements such as testing and attendance.

From kindergarten to 3rd grade, Dane struggled with speech and comprehension. ?He put a tremendous amount of effort into learning, but didn?t receive any results for his hard work,? said his mom. ?He would just shut down and cry.? Dane?s family and teachers knew he was not learning like other children, but could not easily find a doctor or specialist to diagnose his disability and prescribe alternatives. ?This ambiguity led everyone to be confused as to what might help him learn,? adds Mrs. Roset. Dane was not found eligible for special education services and did not have a formal IEP (Individual Education Plan). For years, learning was one frustration after another for Dane, his family and his teachers.

?Dane?s handwriting was chicken scratch,? said Kathryn. ?His motor skills fatigued quickly and no one could tell if he got the meaning of what was said or read to him. I?d try to describe his thinking process as a ?pin-ball machine? to teachers and doctors who tried to help us. Information just bounced around in his brain, making noise. Some content stuck and lots got lost in his central auditory system. I did not know that he could learn and process information until we took him on a Florida vacation and out of the blue he wrote ?DAD? in the sand. He looked up and said, ?Mom, look what I wrote!? That was at the end of first grade and I was determined to find learning resources and educational solutions for my son.?

Mrs. Roset believes most parents are at a disadvantage when it comes to developing an IEP for their child. ?I didn?t understand the technicalities of the form, so I relied on a special education expert to help me. That?s when we met Mr. Ayres.?

Dane?s school agreed to pay for a tutor and the family met Bryan Ayres, Director of the Technology and Curriculum Access Center for Arkansas Easter Seals in Little Rock. Mr. Ayres educated them about technology accommodations like reading software and educational resources. In 2009, he assisted Dane?s family in signing up for an individual Bookshare membership through the Arkansas Virtual Academy and downloaded his first digital book onto reading software called Read, Write, Gold, by TextHelp. This text-to-speech software reads DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) file formats. The program highlights words on the computer screen so Dane can hear and see the text read aloud. This ?multi-modal? reading experience is beneficial for children with LD and other print disabilities.

Dane?s mother and Mr. Ayres noticed a change. ?Dane began to comprehend more of a story and even talk about it with his brothers,? said Mrs. Roset. ?Now he asks for more digital stories and wants to know what books are in Bookshare?s library.?

?Prior to the use of assistive technology and Bookshare, Dane would not have been able to read one paragraph,? said Mr. Ayres. ?He frequently lost his place and became frustrated and anxious. Now, in 4th and 5th grades, he?s read several novels and can research, plan and write stories and reports with many paragraphs.?

Dane doesn?t rely as much on his mom now to read to him. He can sit by himself and enjoy a book. He is making progress, but has a ways to go. His learning disability has cost him years of undue hardship and frustration and has required research and networking with special education and medical experts to find strategies and technologies to address his learning disabilities. Through his mother?s undeniable strength and unfailing love and lots of help from teachers, tutors, organizations like Easter Seals and Bookshare, and accommodations on his IEP, there is hope for Dane.

?When you have a child with LD, the road is hard and discouraging,? said Mrs. Roset. ?Never give up! Through assistive technology and Bookshare, we have seen small victories for our son. Dane now comprehends whole stories and is less frustrated. This year, he gave two presentations about his use of technologies and Bookshare at the ATIA (Assistive Technology Industry Association) conference. Now he can demonstrate his true knowledge. We?ve seen a little beam of light shine through his learning barriers that we felt were almost impossible to overcome. That feels pretty good at this point in time.?
