Sugar Skulls are a huge part of the Day of the Dead celebration so why not decorate some?with?your children today. You can make your own or do an internet search and order some that are pre-made and ready to decorate. ?I should tell you right from the start that sugar skulls are NOT to be eaten. Because of many of the things that?can?be used to decorate them such as sequins and foil it is not suggested that you eat them. They are folk art and can be very pretty.
If you are looking for something that can be eaten then I would suggest you get a Sugar Skull cookie cutter and make cookies. These may be a great alternative for those with smaller children. If you are doing the traditional sugar skulls then I would suggest that use royal icing since it is almost like cement and will not fall off once it dries.
Give each child a skull (you can decide the size) and let them go to town decorating it any way they wish. Traditional sugar skulls are very brightly decorated and sometimes they are personalized. These will actually keep for a long time.
