Whittier Uptown Association hosts Christmas parade

WHITTIER - The Whittier Uptown Association presents its 59th annual Christmas Parade from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Organizers anticipate a crowd of 30,000 along the parade route traveling south on Greenleaf Avenue from Hadley Street, then east on Mar Vista Street to Washington Avenue.

Spectators are encouraged to arrive at least an hour before start time to find parking and secure a spot on the parade route.

Beginning at 8 a.m., Greenleaf Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Hadley to Walnut streets.

The community grand marshal is Hubert Perry, co-founder PIH Health.

The celebrity grand marshal is Mar Yvette, food and fun reporter for FOX 11 News and Good Day L.A., as well as style correspondent for The Ricky Lake Show.

City council members from Whittier, Pico Rivera and Santa Fe Springs, Supervisor Don Knabe, Assemblyman Ian Calderon and Miss Uptown Whittier 2012 Crystal Ordaz will ride in BMWs.

Parade-goers will be entertained by 130 entries, including 17 area high school and middle school bands and community dance and sports groups.

A presentation of band and float trophies will take place at 2 p.m. at the grass area on Greenleaf Avenue, between Bright and Philadelphia streets.
