Strategies Of Successful Teachers

Teachers who have successful classrooms will often use a variety of different teaching strategies. Because each child learns differently and has different needs, a teacher must be aware of different ways to teach each type of student. Many strategies have been developed in order to compensate for the different ways that students learn. A student will no longer have an unsuccessful educational career if they don't learn in the typical way of most students; new lesson plans and assessments offer a variety of learning tools for every different student.

Along with using various teaching strategies in the classroom, it is imperative that teachers understand the core curriculum and its goals. State standards are often set for each subject to ensure that students are learning the necessary pieces of each topic and subject. CCSS, or Common Core State Standards has worked to provide a clear and concise list for students, parents and teachers to better understand what is expected from each student with each specific subject.

Focus On A Wide Variety Of Strategies

One example of a new teaching strategy is to make lectures more interactive. By giving the students a chance to participate in the discussion, you encourage them to pay closer attention and become more involved in their learning. While asking simple questions during a lecture may not accomplish your goal, there are ways to implement strategies to make interactive learning more effective. Bringing students into the teaching process and encouraging them to figure out the answers on their own gives them a stake in their education and will validate their ability to discover things on their own.

Another strategy that has proven to be effective in all learning environments is a role-play technique. Encourage students to put themselves in differing positions and to come up with the answer on their own. By putting themselves in someone else's shoes, especially someone they may disagree with, they are given the chance to consider another point of view and learn how to understand other's emotions and thought processes.

Successful Classrooms

Successful teachers with good classrooms will typically use a variety of strategies in order to meet the needs of all the students. With new research and resources being developed, it is possible in a single lesson plan to reach out to many different types of learners and give them a positive experience in the classroom. Many students who don't learn in traditional ways are discouraged and belligerent in educational situations. By using different strategies that appeal to a broad range of learning styles, you can engage and encourage all the students in your classroom.
