Columbus City Council Targets Adult Gaming Parlors | WBNS-10TV

The Columbus City Council has issued a 180-day moratorium to prevent new adult gaming parlors from opening on Thursday.

Council wanting the State to act on legislation proposed earlier this year, which addresses internet gambling. ?

Concerned residents near the sites of these adult gaming parlors called upon city council for action & are pleased to see results.

Residents like Al Edmondson, who has led the way through two-decades of business in the King-Lincoln district, 10TV?s Danielle Elias reported.

?I?ve seen the change in the neighborhood over the past 20 years,? said Edmondson.

Edmondson said he steps in to help local shops grow and makes a move when he feels others aren?t right, Elias reported.

This includes a new shop that popped up a few weeks ago.

?They had the windows all draped so you really couldn?t see inside,? said Edmonson. ?I knocked on the door and went inside.?

When he went inside he said he saw stations for internet gambling.? These places are called adult gaming parlors or? sometimes billed as internet caf?s, Elias reported.

Edmondson said he feared what the gaming parlor could bring to the neighborhood.

?A lot of our seniors become victims of that type of business because they get money once a month and they will possibly spend their dollars in
places like that,? said Edmondson.

Edmonson and some of his neighbors said they are concerned more violence and crime could come from these parlors.

City leaders are looking to the state to get eliminate the grey area in the law that allows them to run and definitively decide what is legal for enforcement purposes.

Columbus is one of more than a dozen places in Ohio to impose this kind of moratorium.
