Mayor Says Cuomo, Christie Wanted 9/11 Museum Deal 'All Along'

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that the governors of New York and New Jersey wanted to strike a deal to resume work on the 9/11 museum ?all along? ? despite financial disputes that ground construction to a halt for months.

The Port Authority of NY-NJ, headed by Governors Andrew Cuomo and Chris Christie, reached an agreement with the private foundation running the museum ? which is chaired Bloomberg ? on the eve of the 11th anniversary of the attacks.

?It?s democracy, and it takes a long time, but I don?t think you can ever question Christie or Cuomo?s intent to get it done,? Bloomberg said, speaking Friday on his weekly WOR-AM radio show. ?And in the end, I kept saying, ?It?ll get done. It?ll get done.? Ok, so it took a year. It got done.?

Construction was halted in December after the Port Authority, which owns the land, claimed the foundation owed money. The foundation disputed the claim.

Bloomberg said said ?nobody?s sure? how long construction will take. The museum was supposed to open this month.

?Nobody?s going to look back and remember it was a year later than it would have been nice to have,? the mayor said.
